Radical Candor: Being honest is a good thing, right?
Well, it depends. Out of all the founders and leaders I work with, all of them are pretty straight individuals. They are visionary, smart, driven, but also empathic.
Yet, sometimes frustration can build up, leading to communication that is anything but productive. Sounds familiar?
Creating a high-performing team is not just about skill, it is about fostering a culture of honest communication. But not all honesty is created equal. It is not just about blurting out whatever comes to mind. It is about intention and energy behind your words.
That's where Kim Scott's Radical Candor framework comes in. It's about striking the balance between caring personally and challenging directly.
Radical Candor is the sweet spot between radical candor, where you challenge directly while caring personally, obnoxious aggression, where you challenge without caring, manipulative insincerity, where you neither challenge nor care, and ruinous empathy, where you care without challenging.
So, here are four questions to ask yourself inspired by Radical Candor to help you navigate towards radical honesty:
1️⃣ AM I TRUTHFUL, OPEN & AWARE?
2️⃣ AM I SPEAKING UNARGUABLY?
3️⃣ AM I BEING IN GOOD FAITH & ENERGY?
4️⃣ AM I LISTENING ACTIVELY & DEEPLY?
By embracing Radical Candor and fostering a culture of open and honest communication, we not only improve individual performance but also contribute to a regenerative leadership approach. Regenerative leadership focuses among others on building trust, empowering others, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
Let us commit to leading with candor and compassion, shaping a workplace culture built on trust, respect, and regeneration. 🌱
